Art Deco Sconces
Art deco sconces, a result of the
Art Deco period, thrived between the two World Wars,
starting in 1920, and remained popular until about 1939. Many
historians actually stretch the Art Deco perios period from 1900 to
the 1950s, but, as with many other art periods, the work of today
is still being influenced by that of the past.
The Art Deco period did not just
affect architecture and home design, but all of the fine and
applied arts. Furniture, sculptures, certain clothing, classic
jewelry, and graphic design were all influenced by the Art Deco
period style.
So what exactly distinguishes the
Art Deco style from all of the rest of the period styles? Basically
it was a "modernization" of many artistic styles and themes from
the that period of time. You can often detect Art the influences of
Far and Middle Eastern design on Art Deco Style. Greek and Roman
themes, and even Egyptian and Mayan influence, have their own
influences.
If you were looking for the right
word to describe the overall Art Deco look as a design style,
"industrialized" would be the best word for it. In fact, Art Deco
as a decorative design style is usually seen today on buildings,
architecture, interiors, and furnishings of that period.
Some of the modern elements of
Art Deco, including Art Deco sconces, include machine and
automobile patterns and shapes, stylized gears and wheels, or the
implementation of natural elements such as flowers and
sunbursts.
Excellent Art Deco sconces can be
found in many decorative and home design lighting stores, as this
style remains extremely popular in homes todat. Decorators
frequently implement Art Deco Sconces in their lighting plans, and
this period decor will probably be in style for many more years to
come.
